Anna Rose Picagli, RYT 500
TSY 200 Hour 2022, 300 Hour 2023

Anna began practicing yoga in 2014 and quickly discovered its healing and community-building powers. She completed her 500-hour training with Three Sisters Yoga from 2022-2023. She also attained supplemental training in yin yoga with Anjali Yoga Academy and trauma-informed teaching with Yoga International.

Anna strives to create diverse, inclusive class spaces that amplify each student’s unique strengths. She aims to empower each of her students to find their own paths to healing by focusing on the mind-body connection. By fostering deeper self-reflection and bodily awareness, she hopes to help her students self-soothe and find their centers.

With a background in creative writing, Anna utilizes dharma talks, rich imagery, and the poetics of asana to spark inspiration within her students. Her classes are slow-paced, yet intense and intentional, focusing on mindful movement and invitations to draw inward. She strives to hold space for quiet intensity, encouraging her students to lean into their “shadow work” and integrate every aspect of themselves. As a firm believer in the power of the spiritual and metaphysical possibilities that exist within the physical realm, she is also an Usui-Tibetan Reiki Master.

Anna currently resides in Astoria, Queens. Off her mat, she is a voracious reader, a passionate poet, and a seasoned home chef.

Lisa Benner, Lisa Benner Living & Elder Sisters Apothecary, E-RYT 500

An actor, mover and dedicated breather, the moment I was introduced to yoga, I knew it was for me. I came to yoga shortly after I discovered pilates, and found I was able to use both to correct and/or improve different physical issues, including chronic headaches. For a long while I practiced both, but as I experienced the personal transformations it brought, yoga won my heart. I graduated from Sonic Yoga’s 200 hour Teacher Training program, Hathavidya’s 500 hour training, and Bread & Yoga’s prenatal program. I am a Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance as E-RYT 500 and Pre-Natal. I teach at various locations around NYC and am the studio manager for Sonic Yoga. I am also an assistant director for Hathavidya and co-teach teacher trainings at the 200 and 500 hour level (www.hathavidya.com ).

I teach from the Hatha philosophy in the Vinyasa style, creating each class on a theme, and incorporating pranayama, mantra and meditation. Strong attention is given to alignment. I am greatly honored to be able to share the transformations that yoga brings, to teach and to continue to learn. Many thanks to my precious teachers, including Will Duprey, Susan Duprey, Johanna Bell, Lauren Hanna and Jonathan Fields.

Jen Whinnen, Founder & Director, E-RYT 500, MA Communication & Leadership, Ph.D. in process…

Jen began practicing yoga 27 years ago. She continues to be inspired by the practice calling it “the best refuge and healer in my life.” Jen is a Yoga Alliance 500 Hour E-RYT with over 25 years teaching experience. She holds a Masters of Fine Arts in Leadership & Communication.

Teachers trained under Jen have gone on to deepen their practice, open their own businesses, teach all over the world and share yoga wherever they can.

Three Sisters Yoga’s approach to teaching is rooted in Jen’s studies in Hermeneutics and her Iyengar, Vinyasa & Katonah Yoga studentship. Jen works to weave together classes that are concise, safe challenging, liberating and fun.

The name Three Sisters Yoga is inspired by three things in Jen’s life; being the middle child of three sisters, growing up in the Pacific Northwest under the watchful eye of the Three Sisters Mountain Range (Mt. Adams, Mt. Baker & Mt. Rainier), and the practice of growing the three sisters crops (corn, beans & squash). Each of these is a combination of unique, independent entities that can stand on its own, but when they work together provide support, stability and growth for the whole. This is the kind of yoga community I hope to inspire.

It is a joy to continue to work and learn alongside you.

Thank you for everything you teach me.
